ExamRaid
A study app that turns notes and PDFs into practice questions, then makes revision social: friends, duels, shared "raids" where correct answers beat an exam boss, a study planner with reminders, and weekly rankings.
01 The Challenge
Students revise alone, from notes nobody else can use. The goal was to turn a PDF of lecture notes into a question set in minutes, make practising with classmates more fun than scrolling, and run on ordinary Android phones over ordinary Wi-Fi without a heavy backend.
02 Our Approach
- React and Vite front end with an Express API; Capacitor wraps the same app for Android and iOS with native notifications and sharing.
- Question generation from uploaded notes with a large language model behind a server-side API — every generated question stays editable.
- A game layer: raids with an illustrated exam boss, study XP, achievement badges and a mascot that reacts to right and wrong answers.
- A social layer: private friend codes, requests, messages and study-together invitations tied to a shared raid.
- A study planner with local-time sessions, reminders and native Android notifications; opt-in weekly and all-time rankings.
- Playwright browser tests and backend tests on every build.
03 The Results
- Live at examraid.com with free early access.
- Android package built from the same codebase as the web app.
- Shipped in versioned releases through 2026 — from the study-game identity to study-together sessions.
